Transitions & Magic Animate

Add motion between slides, from simple presets to custom transitions built by AI for your content.

Transitions are the motion between one slide and the next. Afterdeck gives you three levels: set them by hand, let AI pick tasteful presets, or have Agent choreograph custom motion for each pair. You manage all of it in the Transitions tab of the right panel.

Three ways to add motion

Manual presets

In the Transitions tab, the Manual section sets the transition from the current slide to the next. Every preset is free, on every plan. They're grouped by feel:

  • Simple: None, Fade, Blackout, Focus, Morph.
  • Slide & push: Slide, Lift, Drop, Cover, Reveal, Corner, Bounce.
  • Reveal: Wipe, Sweep, Curtain, Doors, Slash, Iris, Ink, Clock, Blinds, Mosaic.
  • 3D: Flip, Flip up, Cube, Swing, Spin, Deal.
  • Cinematic: Zoom, Pull back, Warp, Flash, Split, Old TV, Glitch.

Hover a tile to see what it does. When a non-custom transition is selected, an Apply to all slides button appears to use it deck-wide. Fade is the default if you set nothing.

Smart Transitions

Click Smart to have AI choose presets across the whole deck based on each slide's content, position, and the deck's tone. It picks from the full catalog above, so a launch deck might get a Warp or a Doors where an investor deck gets Cube and Fade. It's instant and free, and the quickest way to make a deck feel polished in motion.

Magic Animate

Magic Animate is the premium option. A normal transition does the same thing between every slide. Magic Animate looks at each pair and builds a move that fits them, so a headline can unfold into a chart or a logo can bloom into a grid. The deck flows instead of jumping.

  1. Open the Transitions tab (the deck must be finished generating).

  2. Click Magic Animate. A dock appears and works through the deck pair by pair, and you can keep editing slides while it runs.

  3. When it's done, the transitions are saved and shared with your collaborators. Preview them by entering Present mode, which is where transitions play.

What Magic Animate costs

  • Smart Transitions are always free.
  • On the Free plan you get one Magic Animate run to try it.
  • On Plus, Magic Animate costs a small number of credits per slide pair.
  • On Pro and Max, Magic Animate is included, with no per-use credit cost.

The exact cost is always shown before you run it.

When transitions change

Because Magic Animate is choreographed for specific slide pairs, some edits affect it:

  • Editing a slide's content clears the custom transition on the pairs it touches (the choreography no longer matches). Manual presets are left alone.
  • Reordering slides re-pairs them. If that breaks Magic Animate pairs, Afterdeck asks whether to Remove the broken ones or Re-animate just those (for a few credits). Manual presets always follow their slides.
  • Re-running Magic Animate replaces existing custom transitions, and you'll be asked to confirm first.
