Media & music
Put video, GIFs, and YouTube embeds on your slides, and give the whole deck a soundtrack.
Slides don't have to be silent stills. Add media in the editor toolbar opens a picker with three kinds of media: Music, GIF, and Video. Videos and GIFs live on a slide like any other element, so you can drag, resize, and layer them. Music belongs to the deck itself and plays while you present.
| Tab | What you get |
|---|---|
| Music | A free-to-use track as a bed for the whole deck, or for one slide. |
| GIF | Search reactions and loops. |
| Video | Stock footage, your own files, or a YouTube link. |
Video
Three sources, one search box:
- Stock searches free footage right in the picker.
- Upload takes your own file, up to 60 MB.
- YouTube turns a pasted link into a real player.
Once a video is on the slide, select it to tune how it behaves: autoplay, sound and volume, loop, playback speed, trim (start and end points), how it fills its frame, and the poster frame shown before it plays. YouTube embeds can start automatically, when the slide appears, or when clicked.
Videos play in the editor, in Present mode, on shared links, and for your live slideshow audience.
GIFs
The GIF tab searches a huge library of reactions and loops. Click one and it lands on the slide as a looping image, which you resize and place like any picture. Great for punchlines; use sparingly in board meetings.
Music
The Music tab gives your deck a soundtrack. Pick a scope first, either the whole deck or just the current slide (a slide can override the deck bed, say a quiet track everywhere but an energetic one for the demo). Then choose a source:
- Library searches openly licensed, free-to-use music, and you can audition tracks right in the list.
- Upload brings in your own audio file.
- Link takes a direct audio URL.
- Drive pulls a file from your Google Drive.
After you add a track, a music pill docks under the slide canvas. It's the soundtrack's home: audition the track, adjust volume, trim it, and set fades and crossfades between deck and slide tracks.
Music plays while presenting, including for everyone watching a live slideshow on their own devices. (Browsers sometimes require a tap before audio can start; viewers get a one-tap "Turn on music" button when that happens.)
What survives export
Exports are files, and files carry media differently. The honest table:
| PowerPoint | Google Slides | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| Video | ✅ Plays when clicked | ❌ Becomes a still image | ❌ Becomes a still image |
| GIFs | ✅ Animates (desktop app) | ✅ Animates | ❌ Becomes a still image |
| YouTube | ✅ Plays when clicked | ❌ Becomes a still image | ❌ Becomes a still image |
| Music | ✅ Embedded on the first slide, plays when clicked | ❌ Not included | ❌ No audio in a PDF |
Google Slides can't take video or audio from an import, because Drive's converter drops embedded media on the way in. If your deck has media that won't survive the trip, Afterdeck warns you before the export, so nothing surprises you on stage.
