A faster, smoother editor

Dragging, resizing, typing and clicking around your slides all feel quicker and more predictable.

The upgraded slide editor

We rebuilt a lot of the editor under the hood. You won’t find a new button for it. You’ll just notice that editing a slide by hand feels quick, calm and exact, the way a good design tool should.

Grab something, put it somewhere, and it stays there. Click a word and you’re typing. Changes save in the background while you keep going. Here’s what that looks like in practice.

Things land where you let go

Drag anything on a slide and it follows your pointer the whole way, then stays exactly where you drop it. The rest of the slide stays put. Move a logo into the corner and the headline next to it doesn’t budge.

Guides show up as you drag, so lining things up takes no effort. Your element snaps to the edges and centers of the objects around it, to the middle of the slide, and to even spacing in a row, with little markers showing the gaps. Hold ⌘ or Ctrl to drag without snapping, or Shift to move in a straight line. Select a few things and they all move together, by mouse or by arrow keys.

Reorder lists by dragging

Bullet points, a row of cards, a grid of team photos. Drag one within its list and the others slide aside to make room, so reordering is a single motion. Want one of them somewhere else entirely? Hold Alt or Option and place it freely.

Resizing that does what you expect

Pull a handle and the box ends up the exact size you dragged it to. On text, the side handles change where the lines wrap and the corners make the text bigger or smaller. Photos and videos keep their shape when you drag a corner, and Shift lets you stretch them.

Click anything you can see

If it’s on the slide, you can select it. That includes the small stuff: slide numbers, a caption tucked in a corner, a wordmark, the labels inside a chart or diagram. Clicks go straight to what you’re aiming at, even when there’s a photo filter or a pattern layered on top of it.

Typing feels natural

  • The cursor lands right where you click, and double-clicking selects a word.
  • Press Enter on a selected text box to start typing, with everything already selected.
  • Escape finishes typing and keeps what you wrote. ⌘Z or Ctrl+Z takes it back if you change your mind.
  • Edit the text on a tag or button and its icon stays right where it was.
  • Chart and diagram labels are editable. Select the chart, then click the label.
  • Paste a screenshot while you’re typing and it goes onto the slide as a picture.

Quicker everywhere

Slides open fast when you click through the deck, and pictures fill in as they load instead of holding everything up. The thumbnails on the left catch up with your edits within a second or two. Every change saves quietly in the background, so you can make ten moves in a row without waiting on any of them. Undo and redo happen instantly.

In step with everyone else

The editor stays in sync whether you have the deck open in two tabs, a teammate is editing next to you, or Agent is working on the same slide. Their changes show up as they happen, and yours stay exactly as you left them.

All of this is live now in every deck. Open one and move a few things around. For the full list of gestures and shortcuts, see Editing by hand.
